The PlayStation Phone has been revealed

The PlayStation Phone was first rumored a few months ago, but recently it has been pictured in all its glory. The device is made by Sony Ericsson, no real surprises there, and it looks like a PSP with, well, a phone. It’s what PS3 and PSP nerds have been dreaming of – a phone and gaming device hybrid.

When Engadget reported on the device yesterday with high resolution images, some readers cried, “Fake!” But it’s very real and the images that Engadget put up in its gallery prove it. Of course, the PlayStation Phone could possibly be – and likely is – still a prototype. What does that mean? Well, it could look very different when it’s finally released, or it could never hit the market at all.

Here are some specs:

The device snapped up top (and in our gallery below) is sporting a 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8655 (a chip similar to the one found in the G2, but 200MHz faster), 512MB of RAM, 1GB of ROM, and the screen is in the range of 3.7 to 4.1 inches.

The PlayStation Phone looks appealing, and it’s running Android. Presumably, this thing will be rocking Android 3.0, which is either Gingerbread or Honeycomb or Ice Cream depending on whom you ask.

It sure would be nice to see Sony Ericsson back in the market with a serious contender rather than its half-baked, late-to-market Xperia devices.
