Sony has just pushed 1 million PlayStation 3 Move units and hints at the future of gaming. It’s a rather impressive number since launching on September 19. For those of you unfamiliar with the PS3 Move, it’s a bit similar to the Xbox 360 Kinect in that it’s a motion-based controller. If you ever thought that motion-based controller games would be a quickly passing fad, think again. The number of PS3 Move units sold proves that it’s certainly here to stay.
While I’m a fan of just sitting down and getting fat with a controller in my hands, it really can break the monotony of sitting around literally twiddling your thumbs on joysticks. Also, the games that are being introduced for the PS3 Move look pretty slick and it’s amazingly sensitive to even the most minor movements.
Apparently, Sony has been trouble keeping the Move in stock to meet demand, and while it’s good news that demand is high, it’s bad for the coming holidays. When Black Friday rolls around, folks are going to be going at this thing like crazy.
Hopefully Sony has a game plan for these rabid PlayStation 3 users who are looking to pick up the new controller before the real shopping frenzy hits. Apparently, there is some kind of plan says InformationWeek:
Keeping enough of the product on store shelves is proving difficult for Sony. Tretton told the Reuters news agency that the company does not expect to have supply in line with demand until February 2011. “We had to go back and increase production twice, we’re absolutely maxed out right now,” Tretton told Reuters.
Make it quick, Sony! I want to get one of these in my stockings this Christmas, thank you very much.
