Last month, it was rumored that a Facebook phone was in the works. While Facebook cautiously and unconvincingly denied such a thing, it almost seemed like a fleeting weekend rumor. Now, the social network is hosting a mobile event – which is slightly unusual – next Wednesday. What does it mean?!
Well, this could mean a number of things. First, Facebook might not be releasing its own hardware. It never said that it would. It’s possible, however, that there is a smartphone waiting to be announced from a manufacturer that has worked very closely with the social network. Perhaps Facebook is waiting to announce a new operating system, or a skin or UI that is deeply integrated within an existing OS like Android.
One thing is for sure — Facebook addicts might have a lot to look forward to. Personally, I’m very curious to see what Mark Zuckerberg and crew have brewing. We’ll find out next week!
