Sprint EVO 4G Android 2.2 (Froyo) Update Gets Official for August 3rd

According to Engadget the Sprint EVO 4G will definitely be getting the Android 2.2 (Froyo) update on August 3rd, but not just any update, and it could show up as early as July 30. This beastly new version of Android will include a plethora of preloaded widgets, like the ability to use the camera LED as a flashlight, LED flash enabled 24 FPS 720P video recording, and an improvement to the video recording. Perhaps one of the biggest additions is that you’ll now be able to store apps onto your memory card, freeing up space on the phone’s on-board memory and giving you the ability to take your apps with you on the microSD card.

We’re also expecting to see some overall improvements with Froyo, and perhaps a little battery life improvements, too. The EVO 4G certainly could use it. Android 2.2 or Froyo has been touted by many as the operating system that Android should have been at the start — a more complete and well-rounded version. It’s no longer the bare bones and very limited OS we saw during launch in October 2008.

The update will be available over the air via HTC FOTA servers and also downloadable via 3G, 4G, and Wi-Fi within the phone’s settings.
