Amazon Releases Lighter, Smaller, Brighter Kindle with Wi-Fi Only Version

The latest generation of the Amazon Kindle trims some fat and upgrades itself in every department. The new Kindle now uses a High-Contrast E-Ink Screen, increasing the brightness by 50% with no glare. The design is sleeker with a 21% size reduction while retaining the 6″ reading area. Storage has been doubled and can now hold up to 3,500 books – 4GB internal storage, 3GB user available. The page turns are faster and quieter.

The new Kindle also comes in a non 3G Wi-Fi only form for only $139. The Wi-Fi only version is 0.2 ounces lighter, 8.5 ounces versus the 8.7 ounce 3G + Wi-Fi Kindle. The choice is nice since many people stock up on books from locations like their homes, cafes or bookstores where 3G isn’t necessary, so Wi-Fi only is sufficient enough.

The Kindle with 3G + Wi-Fi is priced at $189 and works wireless in over 100 countries. The 3G is unlimited and free. Except for the slight weight difference both Kindles are identical. They also have a new WebKit-Based browser currently experimental.
