iPhone 4: From Full Reception to None by Holding Antenna

One of the most innovative features of the new iPhone is that the antenna is integrated right into the frame. Pretty cool, but if you hold it the wrong way, an iPhone 4 can literally go from full to reception to nothing in less than 5 seconds. “Sorry I accidentally held my phone by the antenna, called dropped, iPhone 4,” ahh ’nuff said. Maybe software will be available for the iPhone to tell it not to use the frame based antenna, but we don’t see that happening any time soon, if at all. This could be one of the biggest hardware flops in Apple history if it turns out to be a ubiquitous issue.
