The wait has been long and outlook bleak, but as of last week, Steam has been available for OSX and it’s doing a great job of demonstrating just how much Mac users wanted it. According to Electronista, “About 11 percent of downloads on the service now go to Macs, two thirds of which are portable.” That’s a pretty big chunk, but as Electronista also notes, Portal is a free download until May 24, so that might skew numbers a bit. Full results, stats and numbers should be up by June.
For shits and giggles, Valve also said that Portal was only a fifth as likely to crash on a Mac as it does on Windows. Ha! Take that, Windows fanboys. In all seriousness, though, we’re happy to see that Mac is finally getting some serious gaming traction where Windows has just dominated for years.
